Lisa attended the 'Vanity Project' at the Hotel Cafe Royal in London today along with other celebrities of her friend and one of her very first stylist, David Thomas. David got his first real break in the world of fashion over 25 years ago after he styled Lisa for the video shoot of 'All Around The World'. The Vanity Project came about when David was asked by the Prince of Wales to create a book (rich visual retrospective of his work) that would raise awareness for The Prince's Trust charity by telling one of its own success stories. The book will be available via crowd-funded publisher Unbound (watch the video introduction of Vanity Project below.)
Tonight the British music industry honours the talent and achievement of those artists that have really shone in the past year at the annual Brit Awards in London. To date, Robbie Williams still holds the record for the most Brit Awards, with a total of 12. However our Lisa has had her fair share of success at The Brits over the years, having been nominated 12 times between 1990 and 1998 and winning on three occasions; In 1990 as Best Newcomer and in 1991 and 1992 as Best British Female. Here's some of Lisa's best Brit Award moments Below picking up her award for Best British Female in 1992 Good news for all the vinyl collectors out there, you do not want to miss out on this one. Due for release on February 24th 2015, is a very special limited press edition 45 vinyl from Lisa. Featuring The Soultalk Remixes of 'There Goes My Heart' and 'So Be It'. A fantastic AA sider and once again a future rarity for the collection. It will be available to purchase from Juno Records, StreetSoul record, Simply Soul and Crazy Beat Records Listen to the snippets on Soundcloud below.
A lovely full length video interview with Lisa filmed back in late 2014 with Ian Glossop (AKA DJ Gloss) from Sound Fusion Radio talking about her career to date, Seven + and whats in store for her in 2015. 30 years ago on this very day, 14th February 1985, Lisa's career took a new turn by performing a St.Valentine's day concert at Rochdale Football Club (in their hometown of Rochdale). Lisa and her band thought no one would attend after putting out loads of handprinted posters around the town. To their surprise around 300 people turned up and the gig was an amazing success. Lisa, was 18 at the time and joined by her old school mates, Ian Devaney (as we all know married Lisa in 1998) and Andy Morris together with four other musician friends including her younger sister Suzanne, who lent a hand on backing vocals. They performed under the band name 'Ede Bop'. The St.Valentine's concert was effectively their very first live appearance together. At that time, Ede Bop had only been together for about four months. They spent their early days developing their many and varied musical talents, rehearsed on a regular basis in hope of getting a recording contract. They later changed their name to 'Blue Zone' and eventually got signed by an independent label Rocking Horse Records (later taken over by Arista). In 1986, after two relatively unsuccessful singles, 'Love Will Wait' & 'Finest Thing' they released 'Thinking about his baby' which became a massive success on the back of the B-side track Big Thing. This track was a massive underground club hit and sold 10,000 copies in its first week. They went onto record their first album Big Thing and were joined by some incredible musicians, including Jocelyn Brown on backing vocals and a guest brass section led by the much admired Jerry Hey who was well renowned for his work with Michael Jackson. What followed thereafter has proven to be an amazing musical journey for Lisa and Ian, filled with all the right ingredients to complete a perfect partnership in every way. So today we would like to thank you for the music, wishing you both many more creative and successful years and eternal happiness together. Happy Valentines Day! Here's a chilled out Lisa soaking up the atmosphere at a local L.A bar on Sunset Boulevard, watching an enthralling match between the New England Patriots who beat Seattle Seahawks 28-24 to win the Super bowl title.
